Traffic & Weather

Living in Louisiana has its positives and negatives.

Positives, for me, include the food (especially crawfish!), the history, the fishing, LSU, the Saints, the fleur de lis, and of course, Mardi Gras.

Negatives...well we can blame the majority of this to weather. The unpredictable weather is unbearable sometimes. Just last week our temperatures were at a high in the 80s and today when I left home it was a whopping 42 degrees F. Not to mention, on Wednesday, we had thunderstorms all night long and a tornado that touched ground on Airline Dr. around 7 PM. Doesn’t Louisiana know its spring time!?

Another negative to include here are our roads. From the potholes to the bumps, after a while you just get used to them. I don’t believe I have ever had a smooth car ride (maybe it’s just my car). And then there’s the double whammy!

Bad weather + lousy roads = horrible traffic. I’ll admit to it; I’m the stereotypical Asian woman that is an awful driver. Yet, I’ve never been in a terrible accident (knock on wood…). Wednesday night on my home from work in Bossier was quite a sight. Traffic was backed on I-20 from one exit to the next, and I still saw a few cars bobbing and weaving through others trying to get that extra mile ahead. Then of course, when I finally got to my first exit, I saw the flashing lights of police cars huddling around one of those cars that was bobbing and weaving earlier.

Traffic and weather…they do go together.

  1. Heh. I'm somewhat of that asian stereotype drivers. Although I couldn't drive straight to save my life, I like to avoid traffic at all cost. I set up times where I would refuse to be on the road for any reasons just to avoid them.

Once I drove around midnight to drive to austin. It was the easiest but the most tiresome drive ever! I almost fell asleep like 3 times in the last 30 mins drive there.

But yes, Weather and traffic doesnt mix well. I think the bad weather is mainly because of the fact we live near the coast statewise. As the cold front is coming down from the north and the warm front coming from the sea, the weather is pretty unpredictable at times. =)

  2. Thanks for the song!

I'm a generally good driver--haven't had an at-fault accident since 1982 (knock wood). And the small town I live in doesn't have an extraordinary amount of traffic. I lived in Shreveport forever, but everytime I have to drive there, my knuckles turn white. It's too scary.
